  • On December 21, 2025, the Mianyang Base of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda held its first public experience day. The inaugural group of experience officers entered the Mianyang China Giant Panda Park to observe giant pandas' daily lives up close.
  • Mianyang China Giant Panda Park was jointly developed by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and the Mianyang Municipal Government. Located in Gulou Mountain Ecological Park within Mianyang Science and Technology City New Area, the park covers approximately 120 hectares with a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan. Construction began in March 2024, and the project was officially handed over on October 29, 2025.
  • The park is divided into five functional zones: Pine-Bamboo Welcome Area, Spring Pond & Flying Birds Area, Summer Bamboo & Breeze Area, Autumn Stream & Valley Area, and Winter Ridge & Pine Area. It features 54 giant panda enclosures, including 39 semi-natural enclosures, 5 free-range enclosures, 6 breeding enclosures, and 4 disease control/rescue enclosures, providing comprehensive protection and display throughout giant pandas' life cycles.
  • The park also houses enclosures for symbiotic animals including red pandas, golden snub-nosed monkeys, sika deer, and takins, enhancing species diversity.
  • The terrain features three mountains flanking two valleys, with animal enclosures situated in the valley areas to ensure secluded habitats. Outdoor enclosures are independently isolated with abundant vegetation and environmental enrichment facilities mimicking natural habitats. Elevation differences between enclosures enable visual interactions among pandas.
  • The park employs an AI-powered intelligent security warning system and maintains constant temperature/humidity through air conditioning. Enclosures utilize "light-based disinfection" technology meeting medical sterilization standards to enhance panda immunity. Unmanned vehicles operate in visitor areas, blending technology with nature.
  • Currently housing 20 giant pandas, all have adapted well during the one-month trial operation period.
  • Visitor facilities include walking trails, Minshan Gallery, science education corridors, and a nature education center. Incorporating sponge city concepts, the park recreates natural landscapes that authentically restore the original valley features of the Minshan mountain range.
  • As both China's science and technology hub and the core habitat of Minshan's giant panda population, Mianyang combines research capabilities with ecological advantages. The park's completion marks a crucial component in northern sector conservation research for the Giant Panda National Park, consolidating Mianyang's status as the "Premier Giant Panda City."
  • Mianyang China Giant Panda Park is scheduled to begin trial public operations on December 29, 2025.
